We collect only what's needed to run the service. Documents you upload are processed by OpenAI's AI systems to generate analysis — this is disclosed below. We do not sell your data. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.
Layman is a document analysis application that uses artificial intelligence to help users understand legal documents. References to "we," "us," or "our" in this Policy refer to the operators of the Layman service.

2.1 Account Information. When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from those providers.
2.2 Documents You Upload. When you submit a document for analysis, we temporarily process the document's content. If cloud sync is disabled (the default), document content is not stored on our servers after analysis is complete. If cloud sync is enabled, document metadata and analysis results are stored in your account.
2.3 Usage Data. We collect information about how you use the app, including features accessed, documents analyzed (count, not content for non-synced users), and subscription status. This helps us improve the service.
2.4 Payment Information. Subscription payments are processed by Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Stripe. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. We receive payment confirmation and subscription status from these processors.
2.5 Device Information. We may collect basic device information (platform, OS version) for compatibility and error diagnostics.
When you submit a document for AI analysis, the document's text content is transmitted to OpenAI via their API. OpenAI processes this content to generate the analysis you see in the app. By using Layman's document analysis feature, you consent to this processing.
4.1 What OpenAI Receives. OpenAI receives the text extracted from your document. We do not separately transmit your name, email, or account information as part of the document analysis request.
4.2 OpenAI's Data Practices. OpenAI's use of API data is governed by their Privacy Policy and API Usage Policies. As of our last review, OpenAI does not use API data to train their models, but you should review their current policies directly.
4.3 Your Responsibility. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit documents for third-party AI processing. Do not upload documents containing sensitive personal information of others, privileged communications, or documents you are not authorized to disclose to third-party services.

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Request deletion of your account and all associated data via Settings > Account > Delete Account
Update inaccurate personal information through your account settings
Request your data in a machine-readable format
Disable cloud sync to keep document analysis results only on your device
Stop using the Service and delete your account at any time

California Residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information.
EEA/UK Residents (GDPR): Our legal basis for processing is your consent (for document analysis) and contract performance (for subscription management). You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Layman is not directed to children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at laymanapp@pm.me and we will delete it promptly.
Layman is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and notify users through the app or by email where appropriate. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
