Layman is a mobile application that uses artificial intelligence to help users understand legal documents. The Service may include the ability to:
The Service is provided on a subscription basis with a free tier offering limited monthly analyses.
3.1 No Attorney-Client Relationship. Use of Layman does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and Layman or any of its operators, employees, or contractors.
3.2 Not a Substitute for Legal Counsel. AI-generated analysis is not a substitute for professional legal advice from a licensed attorney. Laws vary significantly by jurisdiction and individual circumstances. Always consult a qualified attorney before signing any legal document or making any legal decision.
3.3 AI Limitations. The AI analysis may be incomplete, inaccurate, or fail to identify all legally significant provisions. AI models can make errors, miss context, misinterpret clauses, or generate incorrect information. Do not rely solely on this analysis.
3.4 No Guarantee of Accuracy. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for a particular purpose of any AI-generated analysis. Fairness scores are algorithmic assessments and do not constitute legal opinions.
3.5 Jurisdictional Variations. Legal standards and enforceability of contract terms vary by state, country, and local jurisdiction. An AI analysis cannot account for all applicable laws in your jurisdiction.
4.1 OpenAI Processing. Layman uses OpenAI's API to perform document analysis. When you upload a document for analysis, the document's content is transmitted to and processed by OpenAI's systems. By using the Service, you acknowledge and consent to this processing.
4.2 Document Data. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to submit documents for analysis. Do not upload documents containing information you are not authorized to disclose to third-party AI systems.
4.3 Third-Party Terms. Your use of AI analysis features is also subject to OpenAI's usage policies and terms of service. We are not responsible for OpenAI's handling of data beyond what is required by our agreement with them.
4.4 Data Minimization. We transmit only the document content necessary for analysis. We do not intentionally transmit your personal identifying information as part of the document analysis payload.
5.1 Age Requirement. You must be at least 18 years old to use this Service. By using Layman, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age.
5.2 Account Security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. Notify us immediately at laymanapp@pm.me if you suspect unauthorized access.
5.3 Accurate Information. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating an account and to update such information to keep it accurate.
5.4 One Account Per Person. You may not create multiple accounts to circumvent usage limits or any restrictions applied to your account.
Layman offers the following plans (prices may change with notice):

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY OF INFORMATION.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT AI-GENERATED ANALYSIS WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR SUITABLE FOR YOUR SPECIFIC LEGAL SITUATION. USE OF THE SERVICE IS ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LAYMAN AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

16.3 Effect of Termination. Upon termination, your right to use the Service immediately ceases. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including Sections 3, 13, 14, 15, and 17.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles. You agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware for resolution of any dispute arising under these Terms, except as otherwise provided in the Dispute Resolution section.
18.1 Informal Resolution. Before initiating any formal legal proceeding, you agree to first contact us at laymanapp@pm.me and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.
18.2 Binding Arbitration. If informal resolution fails, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration, rather than in court. You waive any right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.
18.3 Exception. Either party may bring claims in small claims court if the claim qualifies.
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify users through the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitute acceptance of the revised Terms.
